Today, I was introduced to the Neutinamu's library management system eXLis. To familiarize myself with the LMS, I practiced creating my first original Marc record using KOMARC21 Classification and Cataloging Rules for the book Boy Erased, the English language book I am using for my reading club. Even though I familiar with creating Marc records in LMS systems such as OCLC Connexion, having to learn it the system that is written in Korean put a nice spin on learning library cataloging vocabulary in another language. But of course, the lovely librarians (사서 ~ Saseo) Ms. Lee, Ms. Kim, and volunteer translator Mr. Cho guided me throughout the process.

Today I learned more detailed information about cataloging with KOMARC and edited the Marc record I previous created for the book Boy Erased. At Neutinamu, keywords are vital to successful search retrieval using MARC Tag 653: keywords. This tag is used to improve user search results using keywords relative to the context of the book. For this book, English keywords and its Korean equivalent are added in this tag field.
Step 1: Creating a Marc record
Important tag fields:
056: a KDC 846 2 edition 5
090: a DDC 648 b C725b
653: keywords:
(memoirs, identity, lgbt, social justice, queer, oppression, family issues, conversion therapy)

Step 2: 기복정보 ~ Basic Record Information
등룩번호 (barcode): 0000074317
정구기호 (call number): 846 C752b (DDC)
벨치기호 (specialized number): 영이자료 (materials in English)
소장처 (shelf location): (1흥) 여러나라책 (books written by different countries)
서가번호 (shelf number): 문학 4 (Literature 4)

Step 3: Catalog visibility
Check!! :)

Step 4: 라 벨 링 ~ Spine Labeling
For materials written in English, the order of spine labels are as follows from top to bottom:
Example for non-fiction
Language English Materials in English (blue label)
Subject Heading Literature 문학 (Literature) (green label)
1-9 Shelf Location 4 (orange label)
Cutter number C753b C753b (white label)

Step 4: Commonplace Book Memo
Last but not least, the placement of a memo and a sleeve. A medium for information sharing, the commonplace book memo allows patrons the opportunity to share their thoughts about the book for the next reader to see. (See Commonplace Book Memo post)

At Neutinamu, Korean Decimal Classification is used to classify materials. KDC follows the Dewey Decimal Classification system, but differs in the arrangement of a few main classes:
KDC
400 Natural Science
500 Technology
600 Arts
700 Language
DDC
400 Language
500 Natural Science 600 Applied Science/Technology 700 Arts

Today, I was given the opportunity to catalog the English materials that I chose to include for the new Subway Library that opened last week. Thanks to my diligent note taking, I felt more confident navigating eXLis and creating new MARC records whilst sharpening my library technical vocabulary in Korean. I also discovered the new call number system which replaces Cutter numbers with more intuitive call numbers that are unique to Neutinamu. The importance of this change is to provide an easier search, browse, and retrieval system for patrons. The new system will be the same for fiction and non-fiction material.
For example: Neutinamu will now start using full family name, first letter of given name, and first letter of title; in that order.
Example: ConleyG B = Boy Erased by Garrard Conely
