Not so 'lost in translation'

Mr. Cho, an incredible human who is beyond his years. He is a young man with an old soul.

Mr. Cho, a youth volunteer translator and now regular patron of Neutinamu has been with me throughout my directed-field work experience. I cannot forget to honor and be grateful for his contribution of lightening the language barrier, and he translated conversations and written word from Korean to English. He has helped me communicate well with library staff, patrons, and has accompanied me to library field-trips. It has been invaluable to my experience in Korea. The opportunity of working together has also built friendships between each other and with other people at Neutinamu. In addition, he has improved his English language skills and I a Korean vocabulary.

I thought this photo of him, taken at the Gusan Village Library, standing in an antique phone booth inside the architecturally designed library building that incorporates the structure of old buildings and new, holds so much symbolism of the human experience. Thank you, Mr. Cho!
